Now in as much as we have heard a lot about rape allegations and sexual assault, it seems a lot of Africans still have to be educated on the effect of sexual assault or abuse of any kind.
I was somewhere for a conference and after the conference, after the conference news went around about what God did through some of the people who came and I started getting calls and calls.
I was on another call and after I was done with that I saw a particular number had called me over 13 times. She had called me because of the testimony she heard from someone else that I had prayed for earlier. Now I had to pay attention to this lady, I thought what must be going on that some had to call me over 13 times.
So I called and she said she wanted me to pray for her daughter who was once a honor student but grades had dropped and this once full of life girl now doesn’t really care anymore. This once full of life girl who had scholarships to several universities was no longer interested in life.
So I prayed and she said she was going to bring her and the time was 11pm and she would drive for one hour because she needed to get help for her daughter. She came with the other lady ( who I had not met but prayed on the phone with earlier).
So they got to where I was about 12midnight. Yes, all our team waited for them.
Now while I was talking to both mum and daughter, I just heard the Holy Spirit say “ take her to talk to her separately, there is much more.” So I told the mum that I needed to talk to this beautiful young girl privately. So I asked her what was going on and she opened up, she had gone with her best friend to this other person’s house, this said girlfriend drugged her drink and had planned for her to be raped by this said boy.
Well it turned out that it was attempted rape, God delivered her.
As much as it was an attempted rape, this young girl’s life had a huge turn around from that point on, her life changed completely, she couldn’t tell anyone because people would ask what she was doing at a boy’s house. This was the reason behind this girl’s trauma. She had carried it for years and years.
Of course I at point I had to call the mum in and she knew but I was just wondering why it wasn’t reported. Of course she didn’t want her daughter to be stigmatized and also she wanted to avoid victim blaming.
Yes we prayed and I think they left around around 2am. Afterwards I got report that the young girl felt lighter and released from the pain and trauma of attempted rape.
Now we need to understand that sexual assault (SA)whether 20 years ago, yesterday or today will greatly impact the life of the victim (s). We need to tread carefully on the way we respond to people’s stories. Today I bet you many girls, boys , women and men are still hurting from past event of SA.
When some young adults speak (boys) we will hear that because some of them were sexually abused by ladies, they have grown to hate women.
When some young adult speak (girls) ,we will hear that because they have been sexually abused by men they have grown to hate men . Some of them will never go for heterosexual ( male and female) relationships because they have been abused.
You will hear some say they don’t have affection for opposite sexes because of their past experiences.
Let’s always advocate for healing and recovery and let’s educate ourselves more on the effect of trauma.
