I am not sure we are really learning from events that have been happening in recent past.

It is only in  African culture people tell you to shut up and not talk about your pain.I will say it over and over again, people handle pain differently. For some people, they can never be completely healed unless they talk about their pain. It’s not your pain, let people deal with their pain the way they choose to.

It’s no wonder there is an alarming increase of depression and suicide rate.  Even in the body of Christ today, people are going through a lot but they cannot talk because they don’t want to be shamed, it’s all link to the culture of don’t talk.

When people commit suicide and we later discover they were going through issues they never let out, , we say “ohh why didn’t they speak  out.”

When they talk, we say they are talking too much.

Have you ever wondered if the talking is what is saving the person from committing suicide?

Please let’s stop this culture of don’t talk.

If only we understand what goes on in the mind of people before they take their lives, we will encourage people to talk more. By talking, people unburden their negative feelings, thoughts, emotions and cognitions. By talking, we know what is going on in the minds of people. By talking, they can find support systems around them.

By talking , people receive the help they need. Do not trivialize the pain of people.

Often times, people kill themselves because they are afraid to let the world know what they are going through, they cherish the world and what people will say above their feelings, it’s not their fault either, it’s the society we have found ourselves in.

Let’s stop shaming people who choose to talk about their pains. Let’s help people unmask and be real. Let’s help people take the covering away so they can receive the help needed.

Avoidance and inability of people to express their pain can lead to anxiety, depression and eventually suicide.

Let’s be more supportive of people who speak out rather than shutting them up. By supporting them, we help validate their feelings, we help normalize their feelings and above all we are telling them that we are fully present with them and helping them hold their feelings.

You are helping improve their mental health when we do this.

Blessings!!
